KOTA KINABALU, Oct. 15 – A video has surfaced online showing Chief Minister Deputy Minister Datuk Wetrom Bahanda claiming he is defecting to the Warisan Party.

In the video shared on social media, the MP for Bandau claimed that he would contest the Kota Marudu federal seat for Warisan in the 15th general election.

“Today I am announcing that I will be participating in a Warisan contest,” he said in a video to cheers and applause from the crowd.

He said he heard the opinions of the people of Tandek, Matunggong and Bandau and they gave him their blessing.

He then asked the crowd to join him for a group photo.

It was unclear from the video where he was speaking and for what purpose.

Warisan Wirawati’s Facebook page for Kota Belud also posted an update today alleging that Wetrom left Bersatu to join Warisan.

However, Warisan chairman Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal refused to confirm this and denied meeting Wetrom.

“When the time comes, I will announce it,” he said when asked at an event in Kinarut today.

“On Facebook, don’t believe everything you hear. I haven’t even met him yet,” he said, adding that there were many possibilities as to what would happen.

Wetrom, a first member of the Assembly, won his seat in the 2020 elections in Sabah on a Perikatan Nasional ticket.

Malay Mail is contacting Wetrom for comment.
