Rowdy Mermaid is looking for a bright, knowledgeable and highly motivated individual West sales manager to generate revenue, acquire new clients, manage and develop key accounts and oversee field execution in the West, Southwest and Rocky Mountain regions. This role requires in-depth knowledge of the retail and distribution landscape, established relationships with strategic accounts, exceptional broker management skills and experience managing inventory, pricing and retailers. The West Sales Director will manage regional and independent natural, specialized and conventional retail accounts across the territory. This position reports to the Sales Manager. It is a remote post, based anywhere in the territory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

New business development

  • Identify and secure critical and key accounts in the region to achieve annual sales targets
  • Secure meetings with Category Managers and buyers during review cycles
  • Build relationships with Category Managers and Buyers outside of review periods
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations that secure product distribution in natural, specialist and conventional accounts
  • Alone or with a broker, identify and target independent regional accounts for market penetration that drives speeds through our current distribution channels
  • Alone or with a broker, integrate new accounts with great attention to detail

Account management

  • Develop strong relationships with category managers in existing accounts that lead to results
  • Develop and implement promotional plans that improve speeds and increase brand recognition, while adhering to corporate commercial spending guidelines
  • Establish programs that develop brand dominance in the region
  • Evaluate sales reports and tools to minimize OOS and work with brokers or merchandisers and retailers to fill gaps
  • Have a good understanding of pricing and category assortment at any given retailer
  • Familiarity with category trends and pricing ensuring Rowdy Mermaid is positioned competitively
  • Ensure all documents have been properly submitted to the retailer and distributors to ensure the smooth launch of new items or retailers as well as promotions

Management of brokers, distributors and merchandising

  • Develop strong motivating relationships with the region’s brokerage and merchandising networks
  • Ensure our partners have adequate training, tools and knowledge to manage the sale of Rowdy Mermaid to regional independent accounts
  • Create, deliver and monitor semi-annual goals and progress towards goals
  • Add key DSD partners and other distributors in high potential and high potential geographies
  • Develop and execute comprehensive annual plans for brokers, distributors and merchandising groups ensuring goals are measurable and traceable
  • Translate Rowdy Mermaid’s business and sales goals into clear, locally executable plans

Various

  • Execute a defined number of market visits to key regions and retailers identified and agreed with the Sales Manager
  • Translate regional business strategies and trends to the Sales Manager to help shape future sales initiatives
  • Communicate with the home office through regular calls and actively use the team’s tools and resources to share market data
  • Collaborate on goals, approach and best practices with Area Sales Managers or Territory Sales Managers in the region
  • Attend trade shows as needed
  • Identify marketing opportunities in the region and communicate with the Marketing Director
  • Recruit, train and monitor regional demonstration representatives as needed
  • Work with the cross-functional team to establish and implement successful customer programs to cost-effectively increase product availability and distribution points


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in regional sales
  • Existing relationships with representatives of natural channel distributors, regional accounts and brokers
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding retail channels and routes to market
  • Excellent command of sales presentations
  • Excellent project management and relationship building skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field
  • Territory-based (Rocky Mountains, West Coast, Southwest)
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Ability to lift and move 15 pound crates / Climb, kneel frequently to fill point of sale or build displays
  • Safe driving record
  • Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Existing relationships with representatives of natural and conventional distributors, regional accounts and brokers
  • Experience with DSD
  • Passion and experience with functional refrigerated drinks and CPG
  • A love for natural products, keeping pace with the industry and championing brands
  • Experience with an emerging high growth brand

Salary: $ 80,000 – $ 90,000 + DOE bonus
