STATEN ISLAND, NY — It’s almost taco time at Lobo Loco, a stylish Mexican eatery coming to The Boulevard mall in New Dorp. And the Abitino family who run the company are hiring for their first Staten Island location.

An open call has gone out for 2656 Hylan Blvd. for Wednesday, May 4 from 10 a.m. at 18 o’clock. Candidates can pass with or without CV during this period. The opening is scheduled for the week of May 18.

Lobo Loco Mexican Cantina’s flagship location is in Bay Ridge at 86th Street and Third Avenue. At the New Dorp location there will be seating for 40 in the lounge and bar and seating for 180 with room for 90 outside.

The Lobo Loco brand includes a range of guacamole and signature sauces like chipotle and garlic chili.

The idea for a shore-based Lobo Loco on Staten Island germinated about three years ago, pre-COVID, when a broker friend introduced the Abitinos to The Boulevard. The developers checked out an established Lobo Loco in Brooklyn. And the concept seemed a perfect fit for the sprawling, freshly built resort, which is already home to several other food and drink projects like Applebee’s, On A Roll, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Greek Xpress.

Lobo Loco will also be coming to Staten Island Mall in the home of the former TGI Friday space. The restaurant had closed in the summer of 2019. This business almost started before the pandemic, but the Abitinos passed it on in the spring of 2020. Now, the 8,700 square foot space under their stewardship will accommodate approximately 300 seats, at excluding a small outdoor section, which can accommodate around twenty people. It should be completed in the summer.

If Abitino’s name sounds familiar, it’s because of its roots in the restaurant world with eight former pizzerias of the same name in Manhattan. They will also open O Sfizio, which will serve Neapolitan pizzas and dishes. This Annadale spot will open this month.
