United States: CFPB Acting Director Dave Uejio appointed as Deputy Secretary of HUD

Last week, the White House announced that President Biden intends to appoint Dave Uejio, who currently serves as CFPB’s interim director, as Deputy Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunities at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

In January 2021, President Biden appointed Rohit Chopra as director of the CFPB. Mr Chopra is currently FTC commissioner and it was widely believed that to avoid the possibility of a Republican majority, the White House sought to delay confirmation of Mr Chopra as CFPB director until the President Biden fills former President Simons’ FTC seat. On June 15, Lina Khan was confirmed as FTC Commissioner and sworn in as FTC President.

Ms Kahn’s confirmation likely paved the way for Mr Chopra’s confirmation as CFPB director and observers believe Mr Uejio’s appointment as HUD deputy secretary could lead to a Senate vote on Mr. Chopra very soon.

The content of this article is intended to provide a general guide on the subject. Specialist advice should be sought regarding your particular situation.
