ORRINGTON — The owners of Broughman Builders and Downeast Maine Property Management have added a golf course to their real estate portfolio.
Mike and Daisy Wight recently purchased the 18-hole Rocky Knoll golf course from Stella Morgan.
“It’s a course I’ve watched for years,” Mike said. Daisy Wight, associate broker at Realty of Maine, alerted Mike when the River Road property was listed and they purchased it.
“It’s a great course,” said Mike. “The front nine is pretty wide open. It’s almost like two separate golf courses on the same course.
Rocky Knoll has a kitchen and bar in a “nice clubhouse that needs updating,” Wight said.
“That’s our goal over the next four years, to make it as first as possible for the region.”
The Wights are residents of Ellsworth. Rocky Knoll is 45 km from Ellsworth.
The Bar Harbor Golf Course in Trenton had its final season in 2018, which left a void for local golfers. A golf course at the White Birches Motel in Hancock closed years ago.
“We hope to generate more members and make it more and more enjoyable,” Mike said.
Rocky Knoll typically opens around April 1 depending on weather and soil moisture.
